History
-under Spanish rule got a great deal of settlement
-American settlers make up three fifths of population in area by 1805
-causes panic which Spanish try to rectify
-with Spanish settlers from Andalusia, Canary Islands coming
-as well as many German Catholics, Italians
-in area they all end up speaking French
-with US's Wars > Luisiana War (1825-8) they fall under American rule
